- How do I find a percentage of a number?
- Multiply the number by the percent written as a decimal. For example, 20% of 80 is 0.20 times 80, which equals 16.
- How do I work out what percent one number is of another?
- Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100. If you scored 45 out of 60, then 45 divided by 60 is 0.75, so that is 75%.
- How is percentage increase or decrease calculated?
- Use (new value minus old value) divided by old value, times 100. Going from 50 to 65 gives (65 minus 50) divided by 50, which is 0.30, or a 30% increase.
- What is the difference between percentage points and percent?
- Percentage points measure the absolute gap between two percentages, while percent measures the relative change. Moving from 10% to 15% is a rise of 5 percentage points but a 50% relative increase.
