Ideal Weight Calculator

Calculate your ideal body weight from height and sex using the Devine formula, in kg and lb.

Input

Enter your height to calculate your ideal weight.

The Ideal Weight Calculator estimates a reference body weight for your height and sex using the well known Devine formula. It is useful as a rough target or comparison point, though a single healthy weight is really a range rather than one exact number.

How to use the Ideal Weight Calculator

  1. Select your sex.
  2. Enter your height in the available unit.
  3. Submit to calculate your estimated ideal body weight.
  4. Use the figure as a general reference, not a strict goal.

Frequently asked questions

How is ideal weight calculated here?
It uses the Devine formula: men start at 50 kg and women at 45.5 kg, then add 2.3 kg for every inch of height above 60 inches (5 feet). For a man who is 70 inches tall that is 50 + 2.3 x 10 = 73 kg.
Why does the result differ from my BMI healthy range?
The Devine formula gives a single point estimate, while a healthy BMI spans a range of weights for the same height. Both are approximations and can reasonably disagree by several kilograms.
Does it account for muscle or body frame?
No. It is based only on height and sex, so it does not adjust for frame size, muscle mass, or age, which all affect a realistic healthy weight.
Should I treat this as a medical target?
No. The result is an estimate for general information only and not medical advice, so talk to a doctor or dietitian before setting a weight goal.
